Society for Nursing Science and Engineering

Greetings from the Chairperson

I have assumed the post of chairperson of the Society for Nursing Science and Engineering as of November 16, 2019 upon the approval by the board of councilors. I will do my best for the development of the Society. I would like to manage the Society with the support of the fourth-term directors and supervisors. I would like to again ask for further support and cooperation from our members.

The Society for Nursing Science and Engineering was established on October 4, 2013 in anticipation of issues to be faced in Japan due to a “super-aging” society, and to bring new innovations that can solve these issues. Prior to the establishment of the Society, we held: group meetings for nursing science and engineering in January and June 2012; Kickoff Symposium for the Society for Nursing Science and Engineering; and preparatory meetings in February and August 2013. Looking back at this process, we can see how the new and cross-disciplinary study of nursing science and engineering has been established through careful and meticulous effort. Based on the achievements of Prof. Hiromi Sanada, the former chairperson, and Prof. Takeyoshi Dohi, the former vice chairperson, I will work toward the further development of the Society.

As the chairperson of this term, I will work on the following items and objectives.

  • Increase the number of members

We need initiatives to improve the publicity of nursing science and engineering and increase membership among the many societies in the field. We will conduct trend analyses of members, and collaborative projects, seminars, workshops, etc. in academic meetings of other societies.

  • Enhancement of the academic journal

We will establish a system to include high quality research papers from Japan and abroad.

  • Publish the accomplishments of each committee

We will spread information to members and non-members regarding initiatives by the Next Generation Committee, and initiatives and achievements by the Academic Committee regarding industry–academia joint projects, nursing activities, and standardization of nursing equipment.

  • Obtain large-scale research funding

Aiming for an academic leap in nursing science and engineering, our Society will organize a system and strive to obtain large-scale research funding.
